Diane Plesset, CMKBD, C.A.P.S., designed a new home in Oregon City for her husband and herself. It was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and includes contemporary art deco accents throughout. The master bedroom has a private patio, and the “His and Hers” bathrooms are separated and accessed by a wide hallway that leads to an enormous walk-in closet.

  • The husband’s area has his lavatory, lots of storage and two built-in hampers, a toilet and a bidet. It has a trayed ceiling with indirect lighting, repeating a theme that appears in other parts of the home.
  • The wife’s room has her lavatory, with storage for all of her personal-care products, a two-person shower, and an under-mount soaking tub overlooking the garden. Indirect lighting is above the wall tower cabinet and adjoining valance over the mirror.
  • The bathroom features alder cabinets and “Verde Laponia” quartzite (countertops, tub deck, and accent insets). The husband set all the tile in this bathroom, the other two bathrooms, and the kitchen. He’s not a professional tile setter, but he is a very careful D-I-Y-er.
Award for Best New Home, built in Oregon CityThe new home uses hydronic radiant heating throughout, including the tub-shower area and the main areas of both bathrooms. It was built with sustainable products, and is fully accessible. This project won the Home Builders’ Association Best of the Best Award.
