Cheerful Kitchen Design for Grandparents in NW Portland, OR

Image 1 of 1

A cheerful kitchen design was what the grandparents wanted for better function, safety, and enjoyment for themselves and their family. Their grown children and grandchildren visit them several times a month, and the grandchildren often stay overnight on weekends.

PROBLEMS: The original kitchen was dark, with a downdraft cooktop on the island. A pantry closet used a lot of valuable floor space and made the kitchen feel smaller than it was.

Cheerful Kitchen Design Changed Everything

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS: New alder cabinets helped to lighten the kitchen’s appearance. The pantry was moved around the corner, under the stairs. The cooktop and hood were moved across from the island. This freed up the island countertop for multiple users. Diane Plesset added a dedicated pantry next to the new french-door refrigerator, and all of the base cabinets were designed with storage accessories like rollouts and special drawers.

New LED Lighting Changed The Look And Feel

Detailed plans showed LED strip lighting above the cabinets for indirect lighting and below the wall cabinets for indirect and task lighting. Two lit display cabinets above the refrigerator and new pantry add a personal touch to the cheerful kitchen. It’s now a happy place to be with the family!
