Traditional bathrooms (all white) were popular in the 1990's. Most of them lack personality and architectural integrity with the home, and need to be updated. Traditional style reflects the 18th and 19th Centuries (1700-1900), including French Empire influence, Victorian, Eastlake, and Craftsman periods.
"An innovation, to grow organically from within, has to be based on an intact tradition." Yo-Yo Ma
1990's Home. The homeowners were tired of their white bathroom's starkness, and yearned to have a romantic retreat that reminded them of vacations in a French villa. DESIGNER'S SOLUTIONS: Custom walnut furniture was created for the lavatories, and three coordinating stones were incorporated into the remodeled bathroom, including a two-person steam shower. The old-world feeling was created with a luxurious pedestal tub, bronze plumbing fixtures and accessories, and harmonious color scheme. This bathroom received one regional and one national design award.
1990's Home. "We love our home, but hate our white bathroom and small closet." DESIGNER'S SOLUTIONS: To make the 1990's white bathroom blend with the Craftsman-style home, and achieve a larger closet, the layout was modified, and included a new laundry room and mezzanine retreat overlooking the living room (see Living Room Projects). The cabinets, countertop, flooring, and walls emphasized a warm, rich earth-tone palette that delights the homeowners. This bathroom received two national design awards.
