HOME OFFICE?
DOES IT WORK FOR YOU?
Would you like one special area of your home for paying bills and personal filing? Have you turned a personal interest or a hobby into an income-generating career? Have you turned a bedroom, or closet, or a corner of your family room into a home office? How well does it really work for you?
If you have problems with your in-home office, I can help you! With over 25 years of experience, and specific training in ergonomics, lighting, and space planning, I will help you achieve a home office, so you will be more productive, profitable, and healthier. The January, 2011 issue of Kitchen-Bath Design News entitled "Home Work" features two of the dozens of small, medium, and large offices that D. P. Design has created. Below are pictures of several in-home offices:
My Story: A Compassionate Inspiration To Help Others
I've worked from home since establishing D. P. Design in 1984, before home offices became popular. My first "office" was a converted closet that I used for only six months. It had the following problems:
• A shelf that was too high for my keyboard (before adjustable keyboard trays were available at a reasonable price)
• Exposed wires ("electronic spaghetti") everywhere
• Fluorescent lighting that was too bright, behind me so I was working in my own shadow
• Reflected daylight on my monitor that caused me to sit in an uncomfortable position
The converted spare bedroom in that home was palatial, by comparison, but I was limited to doing one task at a time, because my new drafting table used up most of the available floor space. My office in our second home was much better, because we had two guest bedrooms that I could use. The only problem was the two full flights of stairs from the garage to my office. Imagine, returning from a meeting with rolled plans, satchels of heavy samples, and an 8-pound portable computer. It was good that we sold that house in 15 months. Our new home had direct access to my office from the garage.
Home Offices Are Just As Important As "Office" Offices!
These problems emphasized the importance of a working home office. Whether you spend only 2 hours or more than 8 hours a day in your home office, it must be functional and comfortable, with everything you need conveniently located. The lighting should help you avoid eye strain, and your chair-keyboard-mouse-monitor should fit your body.
