Contemporary (Modern) Kitchens represent less than 10% of styles favored by American homeowners. This period began around 1960, and includes Usonian, Minimalist, Contemporary European, Japanese, and Post-Modern styles.
"The best [kitchen] design is an oasis of order." (Home Decorating Reviews Magazine; author unknown)
1970's Townhome. New homeowners wanted to replace the "Earth tones" bland with 21st-century European Contemporary throughout the 3,500 square foot townhouse. The original kitchen was landlocked between the laundry room, entry, dining room, and floor-to-ceiling windows. DESIGNER'S SOLUTIONS: Interior walls were moved to achieve better function, storage, and display. Gray was selected as the background palette, including the cabinets, with cheerful yellow accents. Flooring used throughout the home is "Gascon Blue" limestone. See more pictures of this project in the Bathrooms, Master Bath, Home Additions, and Living Room galleries.
